Now We Here

March 20, 2013 by

Drake has been bringing the heat since he put out ‘Take Care‘, in my opinion at least. I couldn’t switch that album off for months straight. Sure, he’s a bit sad, but, damn, at least he is real and cheeky to boot. I can not say the same for most popular Hip-Hop stars and lyricists anyway. This brings me to his latest, ‘Started From the Bottom’. It’s definitely not sad, and I love the fact that he has the balls to flaunt where he is a bit, but still not make it feel completely over the top and cocky. The video is an homage to the lyrics as well. It is no ‘Marvin’s Room‘, but you can’t have it all. OVO XO.

Cleaning out my library slowly but surely and this time I stumbled across something very deep. The track I have in my library is called ‘Who is Deep’ by Evren Ulusoy, but I’m going to share something from his SoundCloud. The vocals are fantastic. Wow. Enjoy!

Genna’s & Downtown is Dead. That’s almost all you need to know, almost. Downtown is Dead is a party that was started by Fuzzy Duck & has been passed down to Radish & elle. We’re back tonight & starting things fresh for the new year. We are hoping to bring more house into the picture with just a sprinkling of pop and bangers instead of the other way around. We hope you dig it & we hope to see you there tonight! Here’s the info:

Recently, I have been combing through my library, updating genre info, deleting songs, and cleaning up titles. It has been a pretty painstaking process, but I have been trying to do one letter a day. Incidentally, I have been coming across quite a few gems, and here is one that I found in the letter D.

Disclosure has been receiving a lot of praise for the past year (if not longer), and I absolutely love “What’s in Your Head”, but I seem to have missed this one. It is fantastic:

I am starting to see a trend in parties and I feel as though they are starting to swing back towards featuring house and DJs who love to play it and know the genre inside and out. It just makes you move. Here is the info for the party:

I mean, you cannot get more amazing than this album cover. I think this tops the one from Cerrone last week. If you haven’t guessed already, that’s Shalamar. I first remember hearing the track I am writing about in Kid Color‘s ‘From The Wizard’s Lips To My Ears Mix’ for Gotta Dance Dirty. It was near the end of his mix and it just completely struck me. Have a listen to both his mix and Shalamar’s ‘Right in the Socket’ below:

House, Electro House, and Disco House tonight at Club Voodoo. Really looking forward to this and to finally getting a chance to see their new lazer show and play things out on what I think may be an upgraded sound system from last year. Come and dance! There is a lot going on on the TriBeCa tonight.

Here’s one for the road by Peking DuK:

Give Me Love

December 13, 2012 by

Cerrone

I recently picked this record up at Strictly Discs, an all things music store on Monroe St. in Madison, WI. They have a basement full of gems, and I’m glad I was able to find this. Though this is a full length LP containing a number of other tracks like ‘Supernature‘, I was only interested in one song: ‘Give Me Love‘. It is a true disco classic containing bongos, disco lazers, and fantastic vocals. It also is a song that has stood the test of time, and at 128 bpms it easily can fit into any house set. Also, dare I say, it is a song that helped to spark house as a genre, at the very least, with it’s beat.

There have been a number of reimxes over the years (including one by Bob Sinclair and Frankie Knuckles) and here are a few to listen to and download:

Agent Stereo – Gimme Luv

Cerrone – Give Me Love (Mix Choppin Re-imagination)

Cerrone – Give Me Love (PH Cruella Mix)
